Ferry & Speedboat Schedule Helper
Every Malaysian island has its own ferry operator, its own booking system, and its own monsoon blackout window. Pick an island and we'll tell you which operator, how far ahead to book, and when the season actually closes.
Where do you want to go?
What this solves
Every island has a different ferry operator with its own quirks:
- Perhentian — closes Nov–Feb (NE monsoon). Speedboats only. No cars. No roads.
- Redang — closes Nov–March. Big resort ferries + small boat options.
- Tioman — operates year-round but rougher in Dec–Jan. Two departure jetties (Mersing vs Tanjung Gemuk).
- Langkawi — operates year-round. Ferry from Kuala Kedah, Penang (via Butterworth), and Satun (Thailand).
- Sipadan / Mabul — boat from Semporna. Permit required for Sipadan (separate from boat).
Plus booking lead times: Tioman fills up on weekends, Langkawi ferries sell out a week before school holidays. This tool covers all of it.
How to read results
- Operator: the official ferry company for the route.
- Booking lead time: how far ahead to reserve. Critical in peak season.
- Seasonal status: in season, off-season, or fully closed.
- Seat type / class: economy, business, VIP — what's available.
Limitations
- Schedules change seasonally — verify on the operator website within a week of travel.
- Weather cancellations are common in monsoon months. Build slack into your itinerary.
- Sipadan permit is separate from boat booking and very competitive (apply months ahead).
FAQ
Can I bring a car on the ferry to Langkawi?
Yes, on the RoRo ferry from Kuala Kedah. Book well ahead in school holidays. Cost ~RM200.
What if my ferry is cancelled due to weather?
Operators reschedule or refund. No insurance covers weather cancellation unless you bought specific travel insurance.
Is there a ferry from Singapore to Tioman?
No direct ferry. Fly to Mersing via Senai or Changi, then take the Tioman ferry from Mersing jetty.
